Every day, children have three main meals: breakfast, lunch and supper, but they sometimes have a small amount of food that is eaten between main meals. Is it good or bad to have extra snack foods like crisps and peanuts?

American children now eat an average (平均)of three snacks a day between meals. A study found that those snacks add up to almost one-third of all the daily calories eaten by children. And those extra calories could help explain the rise in overweight children in the United States.

The doctors in the research found that snacking has increased since the 1970s. And what kinds of snacks have increased the most? Salty, high-fat foods like chips.

Barry Popkin, a professor in this field, says parents should limit (限制)snacks to one a day for children aged six and older. He also advises parents to provide healthy snacks like fruits and vegetables. Professor Popkin says American schools also need to improve their nutrition (营养). For example, schools may have vending machines that offer what many people would consider junk food.

Public health officials reported in January that seventeen percent of American children are seriously overweight. There has been a push for schools to offer more healthful snacks and lunch choices and fewer sugary drinks. Earlier this month Coca-Cola said it would stop selling sugary drinks in American schools unless parents requested them. Its competitors at Pepsi just announced that they will stop sales of sugared drinks to schools worldwide.

America's top public health officers want to see more changes like this. They spoke about making healthy foods more available. And First lady Michelle Obama is leading a campaign to fight childhood obesity. That is to say, do not let the children become too fat.

Have you ever been so worried about something that you have a headache or even can’t sleep at night? Then you cannot pay enough attention during a test or in your study. If so, then you know that is stress. You are worried too much about something. The bad feeling in your mind can make you angry, sad, or scared, and can even give you a stomachache or a headache.

However, some kind of stress is good. Excitement might happen when you are called to give a speech at school. You feel nervous but excited. This kind of stress can help you to get things well done. And you may do a better job in your test if the stress pushes you to prepare more beforehand.

On the other hand, bad stress can last long if you are unable to come over your problems. You may not feel well, if your parents are having a quarrel, if a family member is badly ill, if you’re doing poorly at school, or if anything else makes you unhappy. That kind of stress isn’t going to help you. And it can actually let you do worse in your daily life.

The best way to fight the stress is to have a balanced life. Make sure you get enough sleep and eat properly. Have some regular exercise. You should take some time for fun. Get advice from your parents, teachers and friends. Soon after that, you’ll probably get away with your stress.
